DAY 7:
REST

PASSAGE

Hebrews 4:1–11

KEY VERSE

Hebrews 4:9–11
“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.”

REFLECTION

Think about the role of a rest day in your training. Without it, your body breaks down. But the point of a rest day isn’t just stopping work; it’s recognizing that the growth doesn’t come from your effort alone. The same is true spiritually. Hebrews 4 says: “There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest...” (vv. 9–11). At first, that sounds like a paradox: “Make every effort to rest.” But here’s the point: rest doesn’t come naturally to us. From the garden of Eden onward, humanity has tried to build identity and value through work; through our knowledge, effort, and achievement. But God’s rest isn’t earned; it’s received, and
the way we receive it is by faith.

Jesus makes it clear in John 6:28–29: “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” Our “work” is to believe in Christ. And from that belief flows everything else; our holiness, our transformation, our changed behaviors.

Here’s the danger: if you don’t know you’re already at rest in Christ, you’ll work to get there. You’ll try to prove your value, to earn holiness, to make yourself worthy. That’s what Hebrews warns us about; missing the rest of God by falling back into striving. But the gospel says, “It is finished.” Your value is secure because you belong to Jesus. You don’t strive for identity; you live from it.

So rest, then, is more than taking a day off. It’s a posture of trust. It’s remembering that God is delighted in your belief. It’s receiving the truth that you are holy, loved, and His. When you embrace that, rest isn’t passive. It becomes the foundation for how you live, train, and serve.

So as you finish this journey, remember what you carry. You are not your own. You were bought with a price, and now the Spirit of God lives in you. That means your body, your strength, your discipline, and even your rest all belong to Him. The gym can be holy ground. The dinner table can be a place of worship. Your work, your relationships, your choices; each can declare that you are God’s temple, set apart for His glory.

Resting in Christ doesn’t make you passive; it frees you to live boldly. You no longer have to strive for value. You already have it. You no longer have to conform to the world’s patterns. You’ve been transformed by the Holy Spirit. So go live it out. Train hard, eat well, rest faithfully, and love deeply; not for your glory, but for His. Because when you live as His temple, every ordinary moment becomes an opportunity to show the world the
extraordinary presence of God.

PRAYER

  • Thank God that you are already seated with Christ, secure in Him.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to help you rest in your identity as His child instead of striving for worth.
  • Pray for faith to trust that “it is finished” and to live from that truth.
